Aubrey Koel

Welcome! I am Aubrey Koel, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Mental Performance Therapist with JKruse Therapy Services, LLC. I believe we are all born with the ability to achieve greatness, we just need the right tools. Is anxiety or depression getting you down? Do you have a vision for who you want to become, the goals you want to achieve, the life you want to live? Do you feel lost in how to turn these visions into your reality?

I work with children, teens, and adults who have common mental health challenges, such as anxiety and depression. Many of us find difficulty in a world that praises our ability to practice self-control (needing to keep it all together) and hide any sign of distress. Because of that we lose our capacity to express genuine emotion, connect, and share intimacy with others. In addition we may struggle to be open and be flexible to life’s unpredictable moments or in other words live in the grey areas of life. All of our attempts to maintain control and portray an image of perfection can manifest in significant anxiety and depression and other mental health concerns. Common challenges that I commonly address in therapy include:

Accountability
Anger
Burn-Out
Communication
Confidence
Conflict Resolution
Focus/Concentration
Generalized Anxiety
Goal Setting
Motivation
Perfectionism
Performance Anxiety
Self-Esteem
Social Anxiety
Stress Management

My role is to help you develop the mental strength and skills necessary to obtain your goals and overcome the obstacles that keep you stagnant. Performance psychology examines the factors that influence a human’s ability to perform at the most optimal level and embodies all aspects of self-improvement. It is utilized with a variety of populations, including athletes, executives, artists, military personnel, students, couples, corporations, and businesses, etc.

Throughout my education and training, I have tailored my experiences to better understand the needs and challenges of individuals in high-pressure settings. I received my B.A. in psychology from Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis and completed my Master’s in Clinical Psychology at Chicago’s Roosevelt University. I completed several internships that focused on the psychological factors influencing collegiate and professional athletes and engaged in a dual-setting practicum in which I provided therapy to students during the school day and a diverse population of individuals engaged in outpatient therapy.

I employ a collection of methods from the theories of positive, humanistic, and performance psychology, giving clients the opportunity to explore who they want to become and develop the assets that will bring their aspirations to fruition. Every client possesses individual strengths. When those strengths are combined with specific mental health practices that create a growth-mindset, clients can experience exponential success.

My goal with you is to help you learn to live authentically again, to trade controlled behaviors and feelings for a free and genuine experience of life.

I proudly work with clients of various cultural backgrounds, ages, and identities. I celebrate diversity and promote inclusion. I am dedicated to providing an accepting, nonjudgmental space in which clients are free to be their truest selves. We all deserve the right to live authentically and pursue our greatest potential.
